What is the Paleo diet? Does it work?

Can anyone here tell me about Paleo? I know that basically it's supposed to be like 'if a caveman didn't eat it, nor should you' but I'm interested in finding out more about it and if it's worked for anyone here.
I'm going to come across as old and crabby now, but seriously...enough with the fad diets lol. I don't know a lot about it, but it sounds like Atkins, the cabbage diet, the soup diet and all the rest of them.
I've looked into it. It based around the idea that humans were basically designed to be hunter gatherers and that since we invented agriculture we eat too many grains and sugars.
I can tell you now, if you like chocolate this one isn't for you haha. The long and short of it is that you shouldn't eat anything that you couldn't gather, hunt or fish.
It's pretty much like any diet. If you reduce your calories (which you would on this diet) and move more, you'll lose weight.
I'm so unconvinced by this one. You could basically eat red meat all day every day and still technically be on the Paleo diet.
I'd never heard of it. Just looked it up, and some of the results are astounding.
Uh...I don't know if I picked the wrong site to read up on it, but some of that stuff sounds a bit 'tin foil hat' to me. Like, I don't think there's a government conspiracy to make us all eat more grains. That's pretty out there.
To be fair Lisa, I do find that I drop a few pounds if I eat less bread and cereal. I agree though, it just feels kind of faddy to me.
I've been sitting here reading about it for a while and I'm really dubious about some of the claims. There's guys with rock solid muscle definition saying that they got like that essentially through eating berries and fish...there is NO WAY you could end up with a six pack you could grate cheese on through diet alone.
It makes sense to me. I agree that you won't get the definition without a lot of exercise, but it all boils down to eating less processed food, and I think we can all agree that's not a bad idea.
No, I get that. I just don't understand why they have to make outlandish claims rather than admit that they had to exercise really hard to get that kind of body.
I'm so bored of 'the X diet' stories. There's no miracle cure for losing weight, you just have to work at it.
I'm crying here, just looked it up and I totally get what Jen is saying. There's guys who have obviously been working out for a LONG time trying to say that they got like that through diet alone. This seems like more of a guy thing than a girl thing, IYKWIM.
IDK, it's all just reducing your calorie intake.
