Hi!
So I have been doing simple FBW 3x/week for quite a while now. I would like to try something different. I have seen plenty of good workouts here, but I just don't know what to choose.
I don't want to bulk or cut. I just want to work out and gain some additional muscle mass, but I have already got so bored of FBW, that I would love to try something more challenging now
What do you think about SPLIT or Push and Pull? I work out for 6 months already, so I think I have gained a little bit of experience
Thanks!!
Well, you are free to try anything to be honest, especially as you don't have any particular goals in mind. I would personally advise you to run FBW for a few more months, before you switch to something else.
There are loads of different FBWs around. Have you tried A/B FBW? You have two kind of workouts here - A and B. They both differ from each other, you have entirely different exercises in both workout A and B.
In your first week, you do workout A at Monday, workout B at Wednesday and then again workout A at Friday. In second week you do it in the same way, but you start from workout B at Monday, so B -> A -> B.
It's pretty entertaining and as you have some experience already it should also give your muscles a bigger impulse to grow than your current plan.
Typical FBW in which you are required to repeat same exercises every week are pretty easy for your body to adapt to.
FBWs workouts are really great and hammlie's suggestion is a very good one. If you want something even more challenging, you may also try A/B/C FBW workout
I have been doing one for quite a while now. Of course you can try push and pull as well - it's a great workout, for a little bit more advanced people though in my opinion, but I'm sure you can manage.
I don't recommend SPLIT though - I would leave it to either women on juice or those that really have a lot of experience.
I will have to slightly disagree with you about SPLIT workout, Katyaa. I agree, that it's not good for beginners, but for anyone with 2 years+ of solid training it can be as good as any other training method.
I'm doing SPLIT myself and it's working really good so far - I'm not on juice of course. It's definitely not for people on Diamond33's level, but in year or two SPLIT can turn out to be a very good choice for her
As you said yourself very often, every single one of us is different, so we shouldn't rule out SPLIT just because it doesn't work for you - there are still people that follow this training with success.
Okay, you may be right about this. I wrote it based on mine and my friends experience that have tried this method. None of them, including me noticed any noticeable growth even though we were all bulking back then.
It depends on a person I guess, but I still believe, that it won't be the best choice for most people.
Thank you all for your suggestions! Yes, I wanted to try SPLIT method, but as I see, that you are all against it, then I'll get back to it another time - in a year or so
I have pretty much already decided on Push and Pull workout, but now that hammlie has mentioned FBW with different variations, I'm very eager to check this out as well
Thanks!
Well, for me personally both SPLIT and Push and Push and Pull have worked, so I'm basically rotating between those two methods.
By the way, what is your goal? Do you want to increase your strength or do you just want to be more fit?
In my first year I did the biggest progress on a program called "Texas Method" - it's an FBW workout, but it's really amazing. I'm a bit too experienced to follow it now, but if I were in your shoes
I wouldn't hesitate at all and I would go for it right away
It's amazing for increasing both strength and endurance - obviously it will get you in a decent shape as well.
Thanks for this suggestion MomLovesIron. I was never interested in strength that much, but by increasing strength I will improve in other areas as well, so I may try this workout, that you have suggested
